December 26, 2023A well-known activist and advocate against draft evasion, Mikhail Zhernakov, who serves as the Chairman of the Board for the “DEJURE Foundation,” has been declared fully capable of military service.
Reportedly confirmed by sources cited in the “Law and Business” publication, Zhernakov was recently detained and brought to a Temporary Detention Center due to his failure to respond to a summons. Earlier, a team of attorneys aimed to challenge the assessment of his limited fitness for military service, citing his flat feet as a concern.
Now, it’s disclosed that during his time at the Temporary Detention Center, Zhernakov faced a fine of 5300 hryvnias for his failure to comply with the summons, yet he was ultimately deemed fully fit for service. The previous diagnosis of flat feet was overturned and the initial conclusion was deemed unreliable due to inaccurate information. Zhernakov provided documentation proving his employment as a 0.75 rate teacher at the “University ‘Kyiv School of Economics,'” entitling him to a deferment. The university and his dissertation are both set to undergo further scrutiny.
