A five-star hotel owned by Ukrainian businessmen burned down in Courchevel; the building was a hotspot for Russia’s elite

A five-star hotel, Les Grandes Alpes, owned by Ukrainians, burned down in Courchevel, a ski resort in the French Alps.

Local media reported this.

The fire broke out in the hotel’s attic on Tuesday at around 7:00 p.m. and was not fully extinguished until Wednesday evening. About 60 firefighters and 50 pieces of equipment were deployed to contain the blaze, the source of which has not yet been established, the prefecture said.

More than 260 people were evacuated because of the fire. No deaths or injuries have been reported.

According to journalists, Les Grandes Alpes is registered through French companies owned by Ihor Mazepa, founder of the investment company Concorde Capital, and his business partner Serhii Marfut.

Les Grandes Alpes is considered one of Courchevel’s most luxurious hotels. Room rates there reach more than €12,000 per night.

In the same building complex as the hotel there was a Russian shoe boutique from the Rendez-Vous chain, which recently found itself at the center of a scandal. Russian Telegram channels wrote that against the backdrop of layoffs in the chain’s stores, pay cuts, and cost-cutting measures, the company organized a star-studded VIP celebration in Courchevel for its 25th anniversary. According to the Telegram channel Baza, it cost at least 30 million rubles. Guests were flown to the Alps on a private jet. Among them were Ksenia Sobchak, blogger Oksana Samoilova, model Elena Perminova, stylist Alexander Rogov, and others.
