A Ukrainian MP does not rule out evacuating Kyiv’s population due to the lack of electricity and empty store shelves
14.01.2026 06:02In Lviv, during mobilization activities, a local resident stabbed a Territorial Recruitment Center (TCC) serviceman with a knife and fled in a minivan.
The incident occurred on January 11 near one of the shopping centers: a joint TCC and police patrol stopped a 46-year-old man to check his military registration documents. He then pulled out a knife and stabbed the serviceman in the abdomen. The victim was hospitalized, and doctors reported that his life is not in danger.
According to law enforcement and the TCC, the man was tracked down and detained. He has been served with a notice of suspicion under an article covering violence against an official performing a public duty; the penalty ranges from 5 to 12 years in prison.
The case comes amid growing public tension surrounding mobilization. In Ukraine, criticism of the TCC has been voiced regularly over its methods and reports of possible abuse of authority; Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets has said he received thousands of complaints from citizens about rights violations during mobilization activities. Even against a backdrop of distrust and fear, some people may perceive document checks as a threat and try to “defend themselves,” but using a knife remains a criminal offense and is being investigated as an attack on a serviceman in the line of duty.
A similar incident reportedly happened earlier in Dnipro: a man allegedly stabbed two TCC servicemen, after which one of them opened fire.
