In Ukraine, the topic of lowering the mobilization age continues to be actively discussed.
“If the Constitution states that a person can become a member of parliament at 21, then they can definitely become a soldier at 20,” said Roman Kostenko, the Secretary of the National Security Committee.
According to the parliamentarian and military officer, he was prompted to make statements on this topic by congressmen in private conversations.
Kostenko said that Americans have expressed doubts about Ukraine’s mobilization issues.
“There is a war for independence; you are fighting, and we are providing weapons. You say that you have mobilization problems. Why, then, is the draft age 18 in all other countries, but 25 in yours? This means that you do not have mobilization problems. Or are you afraid to make decisive decisions?” Kostenko recounted his conversations with American colleagues.
In this regard, the politician believes that lowering the mobilization age is “not a radical decision,” and he supports it.
Earlier, the President’s Office had already reported that the U.S. is pressuring Ukraine to lower the mobilization age to 18.
