Zelensky responded to von der Leyen’s remarks about the timeline for Ukraine’s EU membership
03.03.2026 05:03A new round of talks on settling the Russian–Ukrainian conflict could take place on March 5–8.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
He noted that the meeting was planned in Abu Dhabi, but because of the fighting in the Middle East it is currently impossible to confirm that the talks will be held in the UAE capital.
Besides Abu Dhabi, Turkey or Switzerland could also serve as a venue for the meeting. Ukraine is awaiting a response from its partners, Zelensky added.
On February 28, Bloomberg, citing sources, reported that Russia may stop participating in the negotiations if Kyiv does not agree to withdraw its troops from Donbas.
According to the agency, Moscow considers the dialogue meaningless without this concession. Kyiv has repeatedly rejected the possibility of withdrawing the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the Ukrainian president has called the demand “nonsense.” Western media write that territorial concessions could become the least bad option for Kyiv amid resource depletion.
