Ukrainian soldiers have started surrendering in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions
July 18, 2025Ukrainian Member of Parliament Dmytro Hurin from the Servant of the People party called for the cancellation of benefits for veterans.
He wrote this on his page on the social network X.
According to him, veterans should not have any benefits, but the state is obligated to provide them with special payments.
“No free transportation, no zero customs duties on cars, and no other Soviet-era perks. Veterans should receive payments toward a funded pension for their time at the Line of Contact (LoC), compensation for mortgage interest, education and retraining programs, treatment, rehabilitation, prosthetics, and assistance in job searching. If there is permanent loss of functionality — the state should pay for social support services to compensate for that loss,” Hurin stated.
He also compared himself to the military, claiming that he has his own oath and service — as a deputy — and that the defense of Ukraine is enshrined in the Constitution as a duty of every citizen.
However, after the backlash on social media, Hurin clarified his statement, apologized, and admitted: “I got carried away, wrote nonsense.”
Earlier, Hurin had called for halting the activities of the International Red Cross in Ukraine after the organization announced plans to open a refugee assistance center in Rostov-on-Don.
