The State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine detained the company commander of the 155th brigade, from which hundreds of soldiers had deserted
January 8, 2025Commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, Mykhailo Drapatyi, outlined the reasons behind desertions in the Anna Kyivska Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, trained in France, in a post on his Facebook page. Among these reasons are poor equipment and declining morale among soldiers and commanders.
According to Drapatyi, the brigade struggled with low efficiency and a lack of motivation among mid-level commanders. He also pointed out that the brigade underwent training under challenging conditions, which proved insufficient to foster camaraderie among the recruits. Furthermore, Drapatyi emphasized that the brigade was assembled under tight deadlines, making it impossible to fully oversee all processes.
“Unauthorized departure from the unit. The situation is complicated,” commented the Ukrainian commander.
Earlier, Drapatyi confirmed instances of desertion within the 155th Anna Kyivska Brigade. He noted that he viewed such incidents negatively and added that efforts are currently underway to improve the quality of command.
