15.05.2025 15:49A video showing fellow soldiers abusing a serviceman in one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) units is being widely discussed on social media. The man is reportedly being forced to sign a certain report.
The footage was first published by a Russian war correspondent, who claimed it was found on the phone of a deceased Ukrainian soldier in Russia’s Kursk region. Over time, the video also began circulating on Ukrainian Telegram channels.
According to internet users, the beaten soldier had returned from being absent without leave (AWOL), and his comrades demanded he sign a report for transfer to an assault unit. In the video, the victim is seen digging fortifications when two men approach, verbally abuse him, and begin beating him. The abuse continues for quite a while.
Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, part of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), stated that the video is a fake being spread by Russian sources.
However, a senior lieutenant of the UAF, known by the callsign “Alex,” wrote on his Telegram channel that the incident may have taken place in the 25th Separate Assault Brigade. He called on the Center to provide a more substantial explanation instead of simply relying on the word of the unit’s command.
“With all due respect, no one in their place [meaning the command] would ever admit that such things actually happened in their unit,” Alex stated.
He also noted that the soldier seen in the video later died, thereby confirming, according to him, the information shared by Russian sources.
