“It doesn’t depend on us”: Rubio declined to say how long it might take to end the war in Ukraine
28.03.2025 14:40After yesterday’s summit in Paris, the deployment of European peacekeepers to Ukraine remains uncertain.
This was reported by Le Monde.
No decision was made. The only outcome was the agreement to send a Franco-British military “mission” to Ukraine “in the coming days”, with the goal of obtaining a clearer “outline” of Ukraine’s needs within three to four weeks. According to the French General Staff, this will be a “multidisciplinary team with experts in doctrine, personnel, and training.”
“Despite the bold declarations from London and Paris about being more determined than ever, the project appears to have stalled,” the publication notes, adding that many countries are reluctant to take part in the peacekeeping initiative.
“There’s a significant risk that after all the bold statements and affirming the principle of security guarantees for Ukraine, the mountain will give birth to a mouse,” said Elie Tenenbaum, Director of the Security Studies Center at the French Institute of International Relations.
For reference, President Volodymyr Zelensky said yesterday that the discussion around Western peacekeepers is “not very active.”
