It is uncertain whether the changes to border policy, privately coordinated with the White House, will convince a majority of Republican senators. Democrats also have concerns about the initiative, believing it may harm refugees seeking asylum in America.
In general, the future of the bill, addressing one of the most “explosive issues in American politics,” is in question. The Congress has not made significant changes to immigration and border legislation for decades, and the positions of the parties have become even more entrenched, emphasizes AP.
Nevertheless, Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer has stated that the situation requires urgent resolution as the Ukrainian Armed Forces are running out of ammunition.
“The future of the conflict in Ukraine hangs by a thread. The security of our Western democracy hangs by a thread,” emphasized the politician.
