12.08.2025 09:33At least 12 foreign mercenaries fighting for Ukraine’s Armed Forces were killed in a missile strike on a training camp near Kropyvnytskyi on July 21.
This was reported by The New York Times, citing military sources.
An American volunteer from Florida told the outlet that he saw at least 15 dead and more than 100 wounded soldiers.
The regional military administration confirmed the explosion at the time, but no official information about the strike’s consequences was released. Now it has emerged that a Russian missile hit the training camp’s dining hall during lunchtime, when recruits from the U.S., Colombia, Taiwan, Denmark, and other countries were inside. The strike also ignited an ammunition depot, causing secondary explosions and scattering debris and shrapnel into the air while survivors tried to help the wounded.
Reportedly, no air raid siren sounded before the strike, and the dining hall had no first aid kits.
A representative of Ukraine’s International Legion under the military intelligence service said an investigation into the incident is underway and that the official death toll cannot yet be disclosed.
This is not the first such incident.
In May, a strike was reported on a Ukrainian military training camp in Sumy region. Russia claimed up to 70 Ukrainian troops were killed in that attack.
In March, Ukraine’s Armed Forces confirmed the deaths of soldiers after a missile strike on a training range in Dnipropetrovsk region, with Ukrainian media reporting about 50 troops killed during formation.
