Annalena Berbock calls for the creation of a “winter protective shield” for Ukraine

During the visit of EU foreign ministers to Kyiv, Annalena Bärbock presents an aid package for Ukraine that should help the country survive the winter.

“Ukraine needs a protective shield against winter,” said the German Foreign Minister. This includes strengthening air defense and energy supplies to Ukraine, as well as supplying more generators. Last winter, Russia attacked critical Ukrainian infrastructure. Baerbock added that Germany most likely will not be able to supply more air defense systems, so they will have to be looked for around the world.

For the first time, EU foreign ministers meet outside the EU: 27 top European diplomats and EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell traveled to Kyiv to discuss further assistance to Ukraine. “We are convening a historic meeting of EU foreign ministers here in Ukraine, a candidate country and future EU member. We are here to express our solidarity and support for the Ukrainian people,” Josep Borrell wrote in X. He added: “The future of Ukraine is in the EU.”
