NYT: Raids on a Zelensky ally turned out to be a response to Ukraine’s president
11.11.2025 09:30Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) are increasing their scrutiny of the country’s leadership.
“Rather than backing down under pressure from Mr. Zelensky, the anti-corruption bodies appear to be intensifying their close attention to the country’s leadership,” the outlet reports.
It recalls that President Volodymyr Zelensky tried to “defang” Ukraine’s anti-corruption agencies in July—“after they had conducted an investigation into his close circle.”
“Mr. Zelensky, elected president in 2019, entered politics promising to root out the corruption that has long plagued Ukraine. However, allegations of insider dealing and corruption have continued during his presidency, especially in the energy sector,” NYT adds.
The newspaper also notes, citing Ukrainian media, that businessman Tymur Mindich, who is close to Zelensky, may be implicated in the case.
