The day’s main events: Russia, Ukraine, world — key developments
28.06.2026 12:08Alexander Asafov, first deputy chairman of the Public Chamber’s commission on public review of draft legislation, has assessed Russia’s preparations for the 2026 State Duma elections, stating that Vladimir Putin’s attention to the upcoming campaign reflects its significance for the country. The political analyst made the remarks to Novye Izvestia.
According to Asafov, people of action and patriots should be at the center of attention during the election campaign.
The political analyst also warned that Russia may face attempts at information pressure during the pre-election period. He believes, however, that such risks are being taken into account by the authorities, and that the necessary measures will be taken to protect the electoral campaign.
In Asafov’s assessment, external attention to the Russian elections will persist, and the question of the political system’s stability will therefore remain one of the key issues.
