February 7, 2024President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky’s decision to dismiss the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valeriy Zaluzhny, was preceded by the presentation of the results of a closed sociological study. According to the study, firstly, the percentage of Ukrainians advocating for a swift end to the war, even through compromises with Russia, is increasing. Secondly, the ratings of the government and the president are declining while Zaluzhny’s ratings and those of his yet-to-exist party are rising.
This information is reported by “Ukrainska Pravda” with reference to sources.
According to the publication, the order to dismiss Zaluzhny was expected as early as February 2nd. At the same time, the authorities were concerned about possible unrest in Kyiv.
“Ukrainian Security Service warned its employees to be prepared for possible unrest in Kyiv. Some of the current combatants and brigadiers in the Ukrainian armed forces were also asked by the Security Service of Ukraine to pay closer attention to personnel so that no one would leave their positions or plan movements,” the media reports.
However, the dismissal did not take place at that time. According to media reports, Zelensky still wants to dismiss Zaluzhny (the commander-in-chief refuses to submit a resignation letter voluntarily) and is considering two candidates to replace him – Budanov and Syrskyi.
