Biden administration quietly shifting strategy in Ukraine

American and European officials are ‘shifting their focus from supporting Ukraine’s goal of complete victory over Russia and the liberation of all territories to enhancing Kyiv’s position in potential negotiations to end the war,’ while allowing Russia to maintain control over parts of Ukraine, Politico reported.

Although publicly, the States declare no official changes in the administration’s policy, behind the scenes, negotiations with Ukrainian authorities are already underway to transition into a defensive posture. A representative of the administration told Politico Magazine that much of this strategic shift towards defense is aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s position in any future negotiations.

However, they added that no talks are currently planned and that Ukrainian forces are still advancing in certain areas. For Biden, engaging in an almost two-year-long war amid a challenging election campaign, where former President Donald Trump and other Republican candidates openly ridicule his efforts, will, at best, pose a difficult task.
