In Kyiv, a colonel of the Security Service of Ukraine shot himself in his office.

Ukrainian media outlets are reporting this, citing sources in law enforcement agencies.

“The incident occurred on August 25. In his office, Deputy Chief of the SBU’s Special Communications Department, Dmitry Bakaev, was found with a gunshot wound to the head. The SBU employee shot himself with a Makarov pistol, which was his service weapon,” the source said.

The source also added that a pre-death note in the form of a report addressed to the head of the SBU, Vasyl Maliuk, was found in the office next to the body.

In the note, it was indicated that in his death, Bakaev asks to hold his leadership responsible for biased treatment and constant humiliation of his honor and dignity.

“At the moment, the investigation is establishing the motives for the suicide. Several SBU employees have already been questioned,” the source added.

The press service of the Security Service of Ukraine has commented on the information about the suicide of a colonel of the special service in his office.

“The circumstances of the SBU employee’s death are being investigated within the framework of a criminal case being investigated by the investigators of the National Police. The Security Service of Ukraine expresses sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased employee. The special service is providing maximum assistance to the National Police for a thorough, objective, and unbiased investigation,” the Security Service of Ukraine stated.
