Desecration of graves continues: in Chernivtsi, a monument to Red Army officers has been dismantled
August 29, 2023On the eve of the start of the school year in Ukraine, when the majority of Kyiv’s students will return to their desks in offline mode, journalists inspected bomb shelters in several educational institutions.
As it turned out, schools are currently undergoing renovations en masse, which is why the shelters are either unavailable or only partially accessible.
For instance, at School No. 152, the shelter will only open on September 10th. The school’s director refused to show the condition of the shelter, citing ongoing repair work. However, she promised that the new shelter would have ventilation systems and toilets.
“Our renovations are so extensive that there will even be significant improvements in the shelter,” said the school’s director.
Furthermore, she added that students will be attending school in two shifts. The director explained this is due to the limited capacity of the bomb shelter.
At School No. 212, the shelter is also inaccessible due to repair work, but it is promised to be open earlier – already on August 31st.
“For now, welding work is ongoing in the shelter, so we cannot show it,” said the school’s director.
She clarified that the overall renovation of the shelter cost one million hryvnias. Here, students will also attend school in two shifts: middle and upper grades in the second shift, and elementary grades in the first shift.
