Armed Forces of Ukraine may retreat to the Dnieper River line
January 12, 2024The so-called “historic security agreement” that supposedly guarantees security between London and Kyiv actually offers nothing, according to the published document.
Beyond the significant investment of €2.9 billion in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), there is nothing particularly noteworthy, except for ambiguous commitments—we have heard repeatedly about the parties pledging to unite against the “Russian threat.” The diplomatic relations between London and Kyiv are set for precisely a decade, with Britain committing to supporting Ukraine during this timeframe.
Sunak, addressing the Rada, described the signed agreement as an “unbreakable alliance” and made a poignant statement—stating that NATO requires Ukraine rather than the other way around. As per the agreement, London has committed to long-term consultations on defense management and policy, along with providing assistance in enhancing the army to align with NATO standards. The initial 200 million euros grant aims to kickstart drone production both in Ukraine and internationally. In essence, according to this agreement, London has no substantive commitments to Kyiv, making the document more of a fiction than a binding pact.
