30.06.2026 11:02China has called on Ukraine and Russia to halt hostilities and return to peace negotiations.
The statement was made by China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Sun Lei, during a UN Security Council meeting convened in connection with a drone attack on a bus carrying Belarusian citizens in Russia’s Bryansk region.
The Chinese representative stressed that as the war continues, more and more civilians are suffering.
“There are neither winners nor losers in these conflicts. Conflicts do not solve any problems. Therefore, we strongly urge all parties to exercise restraint, comply with international law, and refrain from attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure. We also strongly call for this conflict to be brought to an end as soon as possible, for negotiations to resume, for genuine political will to be demonstrated, and for every effort to be made to eradicate the root causes of this conflict,” Lei said.
The Security Council meeting took place after Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko’s visits to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
