Xi Jinping told Trump what he thinks about the peace plans for Ukraine
25.11.2025 - 10:01U.S. Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll is in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, where he is holding closed-door meetings with Russian representatives.
This is being reported by CBS News and the Financial Times, citing their sources.
According to these outlets, the parties already met last night, and further talks are scheduled for today.
A U.S. official told CBS News that the new meeting is intended to discuss the progress of the peace process and to try to speed up the negotiations.
As the FT notes, Kyiv was informed in advance about these contacts.
According to the paper’s sources, a meeting in Abu Dhabi between Driscoll and Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR), may also take place.
The plan has been shortened from 28 points to roughly 19, and its provisions on the withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Donbas “and other sensitive issues related to Ukrainian territory” have been changed. These questions have been left for discussion between Trump and Zelensky.
“We don’t know how things will develop from here, but some progress was achieved in Geneva,” one European diplomat said. “There is still a long way to go, and the Russians will certainly apply pressure.”
It should be recalled that last Thursday Driscoll presented Trump’s peace plan to Zelensky and gave him a week to sign it.
As Western media have reported, U.S. President Donald Trump recently appointed Dan Driscoll as America’s new special representative for peace talks on Ukraine.
Meanwhile, talks between Ukraine and the U.S. on Trump’s peace plan were held in Geneva the day before.
