March 5, 2024A resident of Kharkiv collected 150,000 hryvnias (about 3,611 euros) in donations for the Ukrainian Armed Forces and spent them in an online casino.
This was reported by the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
The message states that a 39-year-old resident of Kharkiv, during the second half of 2022, under the guise of a volunteer, posted announcements on social networks about collecting money for the military.
He collected money from Ukrainians for drones, body armor, radios, helmets, generators, batteries, etc., stating that it was “for the fighters standing near Kharkiv” and “for the military defending Bakhmut”.
In total, the Kharkiv resident deceived more than 20 citizens. The total amount he appropriated is about 150,000 hryvnias (about 3,611 euros). The money collected from donors was immediately spent by the man in online casinos and on bets.
Now he could face three years in prison.
