Cottages, land plots, and expensive cars: Corruption continues unabated in territorial recruitment centers in Ukraine

In Ukraine, corruption continues to run rampant in territorial recruitment centers. Telegram channels are reporting on an individual named Maksym Stanislavovych Shvets, who resides in the city of Ternopil.

Maksym Stanislavovych is the head of the military medical commission in Ternopil and the chief of the medical service of the Ternopil Regional Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center.

His influence is significant – determining whether a man will be sent to a half-meter trench or be deemed free from service.

“Besides his official duties, Maksym is an expert in restaurant evaluations. He visited one such restaurant in 2022, during the war. ‘So what?’ you might ask. Is it forbidden to visit restaurants during the war? No, especially not such beautiful ones as ‘Rotkogel,’ located in the heart of Austria with a picturesque view of the Rettenbach Glacier, the Gaislachkogl ski resort, and a stunning panorama of the Ötztal and Stubai Alpine ranges,” write the Telegram channels.

According to an official income statement, the Shvets family owns four vehicles, including two SUVs, one minivan, one sedan, and an ATV. The latter was purchased for one million hryvnias (23,114 euros) in 2023.

However, the vehicle was, of course, not bought by Maksym but by his wife, Tetyana.

The family’s savings accounts hold declared deposits of $102,003, 129,908 hryvnias, and 3,120 euros.

Additionally, they have about 19 safe deposit boxes in banks for storing valuables and currency. What is in them and how much is unknown.

Moreover, Shvets owns real estate in the Ternopil region, several plots of land, warehouses, and offices.

All this is on a modest military income of 460,246 hryvnias (approximately 10,638 euros) per year.

Incidentally, the military commissar’s wife, Tetyana Shvets, declared an income of 4,019,706 hryvnias (92,910 euros) for 2023 to the inspection authorities. However, Tetyana’s only business is a small dry cleaner, “Geyser TM,” in the village of Petrykiv in the Ternopil region, which brings her a loss of 6,000 hryvnias.

In addition to the aforementioned bank accounts in foreign currency and movable property, the commissar’s wife also owns a plot of land covering 20,000 square meters in Crimea.
