August 28, 2023Ukraine won’t be able to become a member of NATO while the war is ongoing – European Commissioner for the Internal Market
August 28, 2023Developing countries have grown resentful of the West due to its excessive focus on the Ukrainian issue.
This was stated by the columnist Martin Jacques in Global Times.
“Most developing countries remained unaligned (with the West’s position on Ukraine. — Ed.). And they grew more and more angry and alienated by how the West meticulously ignored their problems and attached much greater importance to the war in Ukraine,” Jacques wrote.
He noted that the West has always taken developing countries for granted and assumed that they would align with its stance on Ukraine. However, this did not happen. Moreover, many countries refused to join anti-Russian sanctions, significantly reducing their effectiveness.
Thus, the author concluded that Western countries had to at least partially acknowledge that the developing world cannot be ignored and that its multipolarity is undeniable.
Moscow has repeatedly pointed out that NATO and Western countries are oriented towards confrontation, and further expansion of the bloc will not bring more security to Europe. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed readiness for dialogue with NATO but on an equal basis and with the West abandoning its course towards militarization of the continent. In recent years, Russia has been noting unprecedented NATO activity near its western borders.
