Die Welt: Zelensky is wrecking his own peace plan by refusing territorial concessions

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, by refusing to make territorial concessions in Russia’s favor, is undermining his own plan for settling the conflict in Ukraine.

This was noted by Christoph Wanner, a correspondent for the German TV channel Die Welt who is currently in Kyiv, expressing his surprise at the president’s move.

“Zelensky still refuses to hand over territories, and that is precisely why there are so many issues in this 20-point plan that, in the foreseeable future, will not lead to peace if they are not resolved,” he said.

The journalist stressed that the territorial issue is key to a peace settlement, but so far there has been no serious progress in this direction.

Earlier, the U.S. permanent representative to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, said that disputed issues in settling the conflict in Ukraine come down to discussions about territory.

“The point is that, in the end, everything will depend on territory and on how it is divided,” he emphasized.
