March 14, 2024Poland will not encourage the return of Ukrainians to their homeland.
This was stated by the Ambassador of Poland to Ukraine, Jarosław Guzy, in an interview with DW.
The diplomat stated that his country is interested in Ukrainians who are “very important from the perspective of the Polish labor market.”
“I mean the shortage of labor. I can imagine a situation where an employer, for example, hiring Ukrainians, convinces them to stay because it will be difficult for him to find a replacement,” explained Guzy.
The ambassador also noted that at the moment, the Polish government is deciding how to regulate the issue of long-term stays for Ukrainians in the country.
Prior to this, Poland wanted to tighten the conditions for the stay of Ukrainian refugees.
In particular, it was proposed to:
- Revoke temporary protection for leaving Ukraine;
- Cancel the one-time allowances for newcomers amounting to 300 zlotys;
- More thoroughly check people with debts for payments; many refugees do not reimburse half of the expenses for accommodation and food in accommodation centers.
It is worth reminding that Poland has extended temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees until June 2024.
