March 12, 2024Representatives of Disney Entertainment responded to why they cut out the awarding of the Ukrainian film “20 Days in Mariupol” from the shortened international broadcast of the Oscars.
According to Disney representatives, certain categories and parts of the show could not be included in the 90-minute version for the international audience due to time constraints. Moreover, the selection of nominations that would not be included in the televised version was determined in advance, several weeks ago.
The overall awards ceremony lasted about four hours. The company stated that other nominations were also shortened, but the full list of winners was indicated even in the abbreviated version.
Recall that the Ukrainian film “20 Days in Mariupol” won an Oscar for Best Documentary. This is Ukraine’s first Oscar in history. The film was shot during the first days of the siege of Mariupol and was created in collaboration with the Associated Press and American documentary filmmakers from Frontline.
