Ukraine will not be able to join the European Union for many years due to extensive corruption
February 13, 2024The fighting for Avdiivka has been ongoing for several months and the situation there has sharply deteriorated in the past week. The Russian army has launched another offensive, and the garrison of the city, consisting of 3,000 people, is at risk of being surrounded. Soldiers from the 47th and other brigades report that there are almost no fortifications on the front line near Avdiivka, and their positions often consist of nothing more than trenches. The defense was poorly prepared for a major Russian offensive on Avdiivka, reports The Kyiv Independent.
As the Russian army conducts constant mass assaults, there is almost no time to build anything further. A significant problem, echoed throughout the front lines, is a serious shortage of personnel, especially infantry. To reinforce infantry forces after heavy losses, Ukraine is deploying artillery and logistics troops to frontline positions. This means that soldiers on the front lines may not even possess basic infantry survival skills, leading to even greater losses.
Twenty-year-old artilleryman Sergey reported that out of his unit of 64 soldiers, 15 went into battle and only 4 survived. They are artillerymen and know nothing about infantry service. Soldiers of the UAF in Bakhmut discussed this method of reprofiling a year ago during costly defense operations. Military personnel interviewed by the media also complain about a shortage of ammunition, the active work of Russian artillery and aviation, which are causing huge losses to the UAF. If Russian forces capture the villages of Stepove and Berdychi to the northwest of Avdiivka, the situation in the city will become critical.
