“Creation of demilitarized zones”: The Financial Times revealed details of Trump’s plan to end the war in Ukraine
October 28, 2024Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi to abandon neutrality and side with Ukraine by halting economic cooperation with Russia.
He made this appeal in an interview with “The Times of India”.
“One cannot be neutral because that would mean siding with Russia. There can be no neutrality between an aggressor and a victim. I consider this hidden support for Russia. Modi is the prime minister of a truly significant country in terms of population, economy, influence, and impact. Such a country cannot simply say it is interested in ending the war. Blocking Russia’s economy, access to cheap energy, and defense-industrial capabilities would reduce Moscow’s capacity to wage war against us,” Zelensky stated.
He reiterated that India could serve as a venue for peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
Zelensky also rejected the China-Brazil peace initiative, which proposes a freeze along the front line, emphasizing that Ukraine is open to hearing proposals from various countries, including India, the EU, and African nations. However, he stated that any proposals from Brazil and China must be based on Ukraine’s framework, as “the war is happening here.”
Zelensky’s position includes a complete withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukraine, which contrasts with the China-Brazil proposal to halt the conflict along the front line and begin negotiations.
Additionally, Zelensky labeled members of BRICS and participants in the recent summit in Kazan as “pro-Russian.” Modi also attended this summit, the outcomes of which have been analyzed separately.
