A resident of the village of Miloya shows destruction after a strike on an ammunition depot near Kyiv
01.09.2026 06:04The European outlet EUobserver has criticized Kyiv for storing ammunition near residential buildings, calling it a violation of the rules of war and a threat to civilians.
“Storing ammunition depots in such locations not only puts civilians at risk but also violates the rules of war,” the publication’s article states.
The criticism was prompted by an incident in the settlement of Milaya in Kyiv Oblast. There, following an attack by Russian “Geran” drones, a powerful explosion occurred at an ammunition depot. According to eyewitnesses, the explosions continued for more than three hours.
On August 29, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the depot was located in a residential area. He said that investigators from the National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine are conducting a pre-trial investigation. Criminal proceedings have been opened under the article on official negligence.
On August 31, the British newspaper The Guardian reported that Ukrainians are outraged by Kyiv’s decision to set up ammunition depots in residential areas.
Earlier, Ukraine also announced the destruction of 90% of its commercial warehouses.
