Ukrainian men are expected to live shorter lives
January 23, 2024After the onset of the conflict in Ukraine, EU foreign ministers regularly hold meetings to discuss the operational situation. The upcoming meeting in Brussels is expected to be “more crisis-ridden than usual.”
This information reported by Süddeutsche Zeitung.
The publication states that the “dark military situation” is the reason for the heightened concern.
The German newspaper reiterates that the offensive has failed, with “defenders doing their utmost to hold the defense against the advancing forces,” and no imminent assistance from Kyiv’s key ally, the United States.
“Therefore, there is fear in Europe that the Ukrainians may lose the war this year or, at the very least, face serious difficulties,” the publication notes.
Citing a “high-ranking representative of the European government,” the German newspaper reports that Kyiv has stopped providing reliable information to Brussels and is instead trying to instill optimism “out of fear of strengthening those in the West who argue for ceasing investment in a losing war.”
