Europe would like to discuss security guarantees for Kyiv together with Russia

Europe wants to bring Russia into discussions on security guarantees for Ukraine.

“Ukraine’s allies will insist on Russia’s participation after reaching agreement with the United States on security issues,” the publication says.

European officials say their latest talks with the United States were successful, and that discussions on security guarantees are at “a good stage.”

On December 30, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the security guarantees should include a monitoring mission and provisions for how allies would respond if a peace agreement is violated.

Zelensky said the guarantees are being developed in stages, and that this is the main priority for Ukraine.

According to the Ukrainian leader, the second part of the security guarantees concerns clauses on how Ukraine’s allies would react in the event of a ceasefire violation.
