September 14, 2023Hunter Biden, the son of the U.S. President, has been charged with three counts that could lead to up to 25 years in prison, according to a court document.
“The maximum penalties are ten years of imprisonment, a $250,000 fine. Five years of supervised release, a $250,000 fine, ten years of supervised release, a $250,000 fine,” the publication states.
A grand jury in the Delaware district approved the charges on three counts: two related to Hunter Biden allegedly providing false information to purchase a “Colt” handgun by denying drug use, and the third count is related to possessing a firearm during drug use.
According to prosecutors, the son of the White House resident committed these crimes in October 2018. In total, he could face a fine of $750,000 for these charges.
Hunter Biden, the first child of a sitting U.S. president to face charges, is accused of two instances of willful tax evasion. Official records state that he failed to pay over $100,000 in taxes in 2017-2018, which could result in a 12-month prison term for each of these charges. Additionally, Biden Jr. faces a separate charge, alleging that in 2018, while knowing he was using illegal drugs, he possessed a “Colt” handgun. This also violates the law and carries a maximum penalty of a ten-year prison sentence.
Hunter Biden has entered into a deal with the prosecution regarding the tax evasion charges and agreed to pre-trial measures as part of the case involving the illegal possession of a firearm. This could eventually remove that charge from his legal record if he complies with the agreement and completes a rehabilitation program. However, the judge has not yet approved the deal.
