Fico stated that Slovakia has more serious issues than Ukraine

Slovakia is facing much more serious problems than Ukraine, so military assistance to Kiev from Bratislava will cease.

This statement was made by Robert Fico, the former Prime Minister of the country and leader of the winning party Smer in the parliamentary elections, as reported by the Aktuality newspaper.

“Slovakia has more serious problems than Ukraine. If Smer forms a government, we will do everything to start peace negotiations as soon as possible,” said the politician.

Fico added that arms deliveries from Bratislava will stop, but humanitarian aid to Kiev will continue.

The former Prime Minister has repeatedly criticized the authorities in Slovakia for transferring a functioning S-300 air defense system to Ukraine in April 2022. He also claimed that the MiG-29 fighter jets were sent to Kiev in a blatant violation of the Constitution. The politician promised to halt the transfer of military equipment to the Ukrainian Armed Forces if his party wins the parliamentary elections. According to him, arms deliveries to Kiev only lead to loss of life and prolong the conflict.

Earlier today, it was announced that the Smer party won the parliamentary elections in Slovakia, receiving 22.94 percent of the votes. The former Prime Minister later stated that if he and his allies can form a government, they will make every effort to initiate peaceful negotiations regarding Ukraine.

Recall that in the elections in Slovakia held on Saturday, the “Course – Slovak Social Democracy” party emerged as the winner. Its leader, Robert Fico, has served as Prime Minister twice before. He is firmly against military support for Ukraine and advocates for tougher measures against illegal migration.
