U.S. Secretary of State Rubio confirmed that Russia is demanding the withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Donetsk region
03.12.2025 07:31The meeting between Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and White House special envoy Steve Witkoff in the Kremlin lasted about five hours.
After the talks, during which the parties discussed Trump’s plan for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine, Witkoff headed to the U.S. Embassy in Moscow.
Putin’s special representative Kirill Dmitriev described the negotiations with Kushner and Witkoff as productive.
Presidential aide Yury Ushakov said the conversation was “constructive, very useful and substantive,” but that “no compromise version of an agreement exists yet” — the sides did not discuss specific wording, but rather the essence of the proposed settlement and, in his words, “see huge prospects for cooperation.”
According to Ushakov, Moscow received four additional documents from the American side beyond Trump’s original 28-point plan on Ukraine. That document has since been shortened and revised in consultations with Kyiv and its allies; public sources are now speaking of a 19-point version.
Ushakov clarified that the meeting focused on the core of the U.S. plan and possible paths to a long-term settlement, as well as prospects for continued joint work on Ukraine. Trump’s representatives passed on greetings and “best wishes” from the U.S. president to Putin, and in return Putin sent his regards and “a number of political signals” to Washington via Witkoff.
“The territorial issue is, naturally, the most important for us. And for the Americans as well. No compromise option has been found yet, but some of the American ideas look more or less acceptable — though they need to be discussed. Some of the formulations that were proposed to us are suitable for us,” Ushakov said.
A possible personal meeting between Putin and Trump will depend on progress in resolving the conflict, according to Ushakov. At the same time, Russia and the U.S. agreed not to disclose the details of the talks.
He also said that the U.S. representatives will return to Washington, discuss the issues raised at the Kremlin meeting, and then will likely get back in touch with Moscow by phone.
Earlier it was reported that Zelensky and the U.S. Secretary of the Army had agreed on an accelerated timetable for signing Trump’s new peace plan on Ukraine.
