March 15, 2024The American magazine Forbes analyzes the loss of the first three American Abrams tanks in Ukraine and provides its version of how they were hit.
The corresponding material is published on the publication’s website.
It is noted that the first Abrams tank was hit by a drone in February or earlier. The explosion, apparently, opened the anti-explosive door, causing the fire to penetrate the ammunition compartment, which ultimately destroyed it.
The second and third tanks were lost in March from strikes by Russian anti-tank guided missiles “Kornet.” They have a tandem warhead: the first charge penetrates the armor, and the second detonates inside the tank.
The publication considers Russian anti-tank missiles the main, although not the only threat to Abrams tanks.
Due to a shortage of artillery shells, the 47th Mechanized Brigade, which is the only operator of Abrams tanks in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, is forced to fight tanks at close range, which has become the cause of losses among these tanks.
It is worth noting that Russia recently claimed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost another American Abrams tank. It is claimed that the fourth tank was hit in the area of Berdychiv near Avdiivka. Ukraine has not confirmed this information.
