Former President Poroshenko stated that Zelensky is leading Ukraine toward dictatorship

The leader of the political party “European Solidarity” and former President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, has stated that President Volodymyr Zelensky is leading Ukraine toward dictatorship.

He made this statement in an interview with the German publication Bild.

“He is an unfortunate leader of a team that is steering the nation toward dictatorship. But Ukraine is not Russia, and we will not allow a dictatorship to be established in Ukraine,” the former president declared.

Poroshenko described the sanctions imposed against him as an attack on freedom and democracy.

“I am the only political leader, the only opposition leader, who has been sanctioned without any explanation. What is happening here is unconstitutional, illegal, and there is no court ruling. It is simply a very foolish, unlawful, and criminal violation of the law,” Poroshenko said.

When asked about U.S. President Donald Trump’s alleged desire for Zelensky’s resignation, Poroshenko gave a mixed response.

On the one hand, he stated that “who leads Ukraine is a matter for the Ukrainian people.”

On the other hand, he reminded that Zelensky had promised not to run for a second term.

“Do you know what Zelensky said in his 2019 election program? He said: ‘I will not run for a second term. I will finish my first term and leave.’ If that was his direct promise, why should I comment on it? I am relying on him to keep his word,”Poroshenko said.

In the interview, he also stated that Ukraine is suffering heavy losses on the battlefield. Recently, the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF), particularly in the Kursk region, have been forced to retreat.

According to Poroshenko, Ukraine urgently needs to change its approach to warfare. First and foremost, he believes, the term “offensive operation” should be abandoned, and the focus should be on defense and fortification building.

It is worth noting that a new criminal case is currently being prepared against Poroshenko, accusing him of receiving funds from Moscow ahead of the 2019 elections.
