22.12.2025 06:03U.S. President’s special envoy Steven Witkoff commented on the course of Washington’s negotiations with Ukraine and Europe.
A corresponding post appeared on Witkoff’s page on the social network X.
The negotiator said that the U.S. delegation included, in addition to him and Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, White House staffer Josh Gruenbaum.
Earlier, there had been reports that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio would take part in the meetings with representatives of Kyiv and the EU, but this was not confirmed.
According to Witkoff, national security advisers from European countries “also joined the discussions to align a common strategic approach among Ukraine, the United States and Europe.”
In addition, a separate meeting was held in the U.S.–Ukraine format, during which four key documents were reviewed:
-
further development of the 20-point plan;
-
alignment of positions on a multilateral system of security guarantees;
-
alignment of positions on a system of U.S. security guarantees for Ukraine;
-
further development of an economic development plan.
“Special attention was paid to discussing the timing and sequence of further steps,” Witkoff noted.
He added that “peace (in Ukraine — Ed.) must be not only an end to hostilities, but also a worthy foundation for a stable future.”
Trump’s special envoy also said the parties would continue “close coordination with our partners at the next stages of this important work.”
For his part, NSDC Secretary Rustem Umerov posted the same text about the talks’ outcomes as Witkoff did.
Apparently, Kyiv is treating this as a joint statement by Ukraine and the United States.
