The European Parliament is considering revoking Ukraine’s EU candidate status
23.07.2025 - 13:01French Minister for European Affairs Benjamin Haddad has called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to repeal the law he signed that restricts the autonomy of Ukraine’s anti-corruption institutions.
His comments were reported by Reuters.
“It’s not too late to reconsider this decision. We will be watching developments very closely,” the minister stated.
According to Haddad, such actions contradict Ukraine’s declared course toward joining the European Union.
Earlier, Zelensky signed a bill passed by the Verkhovna Rada that limits the powers of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).
On the evening of July 22, residents of Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro, and Lviv took to the streets to protest the adoption of the law. Protesters chanted vulgar slogans against Zelensky’s office, and Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko joined the demonstration in the capital.
