13.01.2026 13:35Major retail chains have begun closing supermarkets in Kyiv due to problems with electricity supply, according to residents of the Ukrainian capital.
As people clarify, this concerns the supermarket chains ATB, Aurora, and Silpo. According to media reports, generators cannot withstand the load.
A similar situation has also developed in Kyiv region.
The day before, the Ukrainian energy holding DTEK called the situation in Ukraine’s energy sector the most difficult of the winter.
President Volodymyr Zelensky agreed with this and said that repair crews are working around the clock.
Against the backdrop of municipal utility problems, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko admitted that Ukraine “does not have the necessary resources to effectively repel attacks, even in Kyiv.”
Meanwhile, residents of Kyiv region have begun protesting and blocking roads.
As a reminder, on January 10, DTEK reported that 100,000 families were left without electricity in Dnipropetrovsk region. The outages affected some residents on the left bank of the Dnipro River, as well as parts of the Saksahanskyiand Pokrovskyi districts of Kryvyi Rih.
Earlier, Kyiv Mayor Klitschko urged Kyiv residents to leave the city if possible.
