Germany does not want to transfer German fighter jets to Ukraine

The Bundeswehr refuses to supply Ukraine with German fighter jets.

This was stated by the official representative of the German government, Steffen Hebestreit, in an interview with ARD-1.

Hebestreit explained that several other countries are already preparing to deliver F-16 fighters to Kyiv and that Ukrainian pilots are undergoing training to operate them. The Bundeswehr does not have such aircraft, which means that if the German Air Force were to supply its fighter jets to Ukraine, Ukrainian pilots would need to undergo lengthy retraining to use them.

“The practice of providing aid to Ukraine has already shown that it is not beneficial if everyone tries to supply everything. Instead, each country or group of countries should focus on what they do best,” Hebestreit emphasized.

Previously, the leader of the opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Friedrich Merz, advocated for Germany to transfer fighter jets from its own arsenal to Kyiv.
