17.10.2025 - 05:03Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán welcomed the announcement of a planned meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Budapest, calling it “great news for all peace-loving people of the world.” He added that Hungary is ready to host the summit.
Orbán’s post on X appeared shortly after Trump’s statement confirming that he and the Russian president had agreed to hold in-person talks in the Hungarian capital.
According to the U.S. president, preliminary consultations will take place beforehand at the level of senior advisers, with the U.S. delegation led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. In the coming days, Trump also plans to discuss the results of his conversation with Putin during a meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House.
Earlier, Trump described his phone call with Putin as “very productive” and said there had been “significant progress.”The date and format of the Budapest summit have not yet been announced.
Meanwhile, Orbán separately confirmed that he will soon meet with Trump to discuss a bilateral economic agreement, including a possible new double taxation avoidance treaty — another sign of Budapest’s growing role as a venue for major political and diplomatic initiatives.
