August 25, 2023According to the United Nations, the total number of casualties since the beginning of the war in Ukraine could reach half a million people.
This statement was made by the Deputy Secretary-General of the organization, Rosemary DiCarlo.
Initially, DiCarlo provided figures from the UN’s OHCHR (Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights), stating that at least 9,444 civilians have been killed, including 545 children.
“In reality, the figures could be higher: by some estimates, the total number of civilians and military personnel killed on both sides could reach half a million,” she added.
DiCarlo did not specify the presented data in terms of the conflict parties or the breakdown between civilian and military casualties.
