February 13, 2024Head of Norwegian military intelligence believes that Russia has gained an advantage in the war.
Vice Admiral Nils Andreas Stensønes, Chief of Intelligence of the Norwegian Ministry of Defense, stated this in an interview with the Norwegian TV channel TV2.
In his opinion, over the past year, despite the sanctions imposed against it, Russia has achieved success in military operations against Ukraine.
He made this statement, emphasizing that Europe needs to “prepare for significant changes and unpredictable developments.”
The latest report from Norwegian military intelligence on threat assessments for 2024 contains a warning about the possibility of a grim situation developing in Ukraine.
These forecasts are based on the following:
- Russia is fully transitioning its economy to military rails and Russian military production is rapidly developing;
- Russia can call up approximately three times more people into the army than Ukraine;
- Russia is achieving military superiority in the war;
- Russia is coping with Western sanctions better than expected;
- China, Iran and North Korea provide significant support to Russia.
According to Vice Admiral Stensønes, Ukraine currently cannot produce modern weapons on its own and is entirely dependent on Western support. At the same time, a significant portion of the Western military equipment provided to the Ukrainian Armed Forces has already been lost in battles or has exhausted its resource.
