U.S. announces timeframe for Putin-Zelensky meeting
20.08.2025 - 11:32Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that during an online European Union (EU) summit, he proposed holding a meeting between EU leaders and Russia as soon as possible.
He wrote about this on his page on the social network X.
“The Hungarian initiative remains on the agenda, namely that the EU should propose a Europe–Russia summit as soon as possible,” the post reads.
Orbán added that Hungary supports the steps taken during the meeting between Russian and U.S. Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska, and also welcomes further moves toward a peaceful settlement, including a possible second meeting between the Russian and American leaders.
Earlier, Orbán stated that EU member states had acknowledged the failure of the strategy of isolating Russia.
