03.09.2025 07:35Since the beginning of the year, Hungary has received more than 5 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia through the TurkStream pipeline.
This was announced by the country’s Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó.
His statement was shared on X by Hungary’s State Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Relations, Zoltán Kovács.
“Via the TurkStream pipeline through Serbia, record volumes of gas have arrived — more than 5 billion cubic meters since January,” Kovács quoted the foreign minister as saying.
He noted that gas supplies through Serbia had reached a record 21 million cubic meters per day.
“Never before has so much gas flowed into Hungary via TurkStream in a single year,” Kovács added.
It should be noted that TurkStream is the main source of gas for the Hungarian market. At the same time, Hungary itself — as media has reported — is the main supplier of gas to Ukraine. Since the start of 2025, deliveries have amounted to 1.85 billion cubic meters. Ukraine is also increasing imports of petroleum products from India, which itself is actively buying oil from Russia.
It should be recalled that Kyiv and Budapest are currently in sharp conflict over Ukrainian strikes on the Druzhba oil pipeline. Because of this, Hungary has declared it will block the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
