Ukrainians are reducing money transfers to the country from abroad
October 2, 2024Hungary claims that the EU is planning to send military instructors and advisors to Ukraine, but Budapest intends to block this process.
This statement was made by the country’s Foreign Minister, Péter Szijjártó, whose remarks were broadcast on the Facebook page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to Szijjártó, the EU’s two-year training program for the Ukrainian Armed Forces is soon expiring, and discussions are currently underway not only about extending the mission but also about changing its format to make it possible for European instructors to be sent directly to Ukraine.
“We consider this an extremely dangerous step in terms of military escalation. We see that this proposal would significantly increase the risk of expanding the conflict,” the minister explained.
Szijjártó added that Budapest requested a revision of the proposal. It is worth noting that decisions in the EU are made unanimously.
In September, European Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis reported that under the “EU Military Assistance Mission to Ukraine” program, 60,000 soldiers were trained in EU countries. An additional 15,000 are planned to be trained by the end of winter.
A year ago, the UK prematurely concluded a large-scale program for training Ukrainian military personnel.
