11.07.2024 10:56Hungary considers a possible victory for Donald Trump as a “chance for peace” in Ukraine.
This statement was made by Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó in an interview with Reuters.
“I think there has to be a very strong external impact to force them (Russia and Ukraine) to at least negotiate. Who has a chance to do this in the upcoming period? It’s only President Trump if he gets elected. We see a chance for peace if President Trump wins. We see a chance for good relations between Hungary and the USA if President Trump wins,” said Szijjártó.
He stated that recent meetings between Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin demonstrated the “huge distance” between their positions.
Earlier, Orbán sent letters to European countries with the views of Zelensky and Putin.
It should be noted that Orbán is scheduled to meet with Trump today.
“This visit is likely to heighten concerns that the Hungarian leader is acting as a mediator between Putin and Trump,” writes Bloomberg.
