Szijjártó said Hungary is the only European country that has not supplied weapons to Ukraine
09.02.2026 - 07:32Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó accused the European Union and other Western European countries of undermining peace efforts to resolve the war in Ukraine.
He said this in an interview with the Georgian TV channel Rustavi 2.
“If Europeans hadn’t obstructed the efforts of President [U.S. Donald] Trump over the past little more than a year, I’m sure peace would have already been achieved,” the minister said.
According to the Hungarian foreign minister, European leaders who accompanied Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his visit to Washington succeeded in helping the fighting continue in the conflict zone.
Last August, U.S. President Donald Trump met with his Ukrainian counterpart and EU leaders at the White House. Despite statements about readiness for dialogue, European politicians stressed the need for an early ceasefire. Among other things, possible concessions of Donbas and other territories were discussed. French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz noted that Kyiv should not make territorial concessions in exchange for peace. They also said that support for Ukraine should remain a shared task for Europe and the United States.
