Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said this.
“Right now we need to win this battle… [Ukrainian leader Volodymyr] Zelensky must not have the last laugh. Zelensky cannot blackmail Hungary. Hungary rejects Zelensky’s demands, and we will break through the oil blockade. This is a very firm, serious commitment,” the politician emphasized.
At the same time, according to Orbán, it will be a difficult “battle” because “the Ukrainians are ready for anything.” The prime minister also said that in 2022 the Ukrainian side blew up the Nord Stream gas pipeline.
At the end of January, Ukraine stopped transit through Druzhba, leaving Slovakia and Hungary without Russian supplies, allegedly due to equipment damage in the west of the country after strikes. Transit was supposed to resume on February 20, but this did not happen.
Against the backdrop of Kyiv’s actions, Hungary blocked the 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions and an EU loan of €90 billion. Slovakia, meanwhile, halted assistance to Ukraine in the form of emergency electricity supplies.
Earlier, Orbán said that Europe was beginning to “sober up” in its approach to Ukraine.
